INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES (AA TO BIS)
Effective Date: 8/1/2016 - 7/31/2020
Completion of the following curriculum will satisfy the requirements for an Associate in Arts degree at KCTCS and related baccalaureate INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES (AA TO BIS) degree at Western Kentucky University. This pathway
meets the general education, pre-major, and program requirements.
The suggested courses in this pathway leads to an Associate and Baccalaureate major. The course
recommendations for the first two years are required for the Baccalaureate degree, but also apply to the
associate degree. The completion of these courses will enable a student to move efficiently into the last
two years of the baccalaureate program.
It is important to discuss revisions to the plan, graduation requirements, entrance requirements, and other
important program requirements with your advisor. Students who complete the associate degree in this pathway are
guaranteed acceptance into the pathway as stated, unless otherwise noted on the pathway.
Sample 1st & 2nd Year Progression
Pre-Transfer Notes
The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree provides an academic alternative to a traditional major program. The integration of studies within an overarching emphasis (complementary courses from different disciplines or academic programs) allows considerable latitude and flexibility to satisfy individual interests and needs. The student must complete an emphasis of at least 36 semester hours of coursework approved by a BIS degree advisor, including a capstone course (student may choose from IDST 495 or IDST 499). Students wishing to earn a minor as a secondary area of study must meet the published requirements for that minor. Courses in the minor may not duplicate those used to satisfy the emphasis in the BIS.
