SOCIOLOGY (AA TO AB)

Completion of the following curriculum will satisfy the requirements for an Associate in Arts degree at KCTCS and related baccalaureate SOCIOLOGY (AA TO AB) degree at Western Kentucky University. This pathway
meets the general education, pre-major, and program requirements.
The suggested courses in this pathway leads to an Associate and Baccalaureate major. The course
recommendations for the first two years are required for the Baccalaureate degree, but also apply to the
associate degree. The completion of these courses will enable a student to move efficiently into the last
two years of the baccalaureate program.
It is important to discuss revisions to the plan, graduation requirements, entrance requirements, and other
important program requirements with your advisor. Students who complete the associate degree in this pathway are
guaranteed acceptance into the pathway as stated, unless otherwise noted on the pathway.

Pre-Transfer Notes
This agreement allow KCTCS graduates to transfer AA coursework from KCTCS into the Sociology program at WKU.
The major in Sociology requires a minimum of 31 credit hours and leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree. The following courses are required for a major: SOCL 100 (SOC 101), 300, 302, 304, 499, and one 200-level course (The general sociology degree without concentration requires either SOCL 210 or SOCL 240). Students must take 15 hours of electives from the following courses: SOCL 210, 220, 240 (SOC 152), 245, 260, 270, 309, 310, 312, 322, 324, 342, 345, 346, 350, 352, 355, 359, 360, 362, 363, 372, 375, 376, 389, 402, 404, 408, 410, 435, 440, 442, 450, 452, 455, 466, 470, 480, 489, 494, 495, 496; CRIM 330, 332, 361, 380, 432, 434, 438, 446, 451. However, no more than two of the following elective courses may be counted toward the Sociology major: SOCL 309, 359, 435, CRIM 330, 332, 361, 380, 432, 434, 438, 446, 451. Not more than 3 hours earned in SOCL 495 / 496 “Directed Study” in Sociology may be counted toward the first 31 hours required for the major. At least half the total semester hours earned must be in upper-division courses (courses numbered 300-499). A minor or second major is required, along with WKU graduation requirements.

Additional KCTCS Graduation Requirements
1. | Completion of minimum of 60 credit hours, |
2. | Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA, |
3. | Minimum of 15 credit hours earned at the institution awarding the degree, |
4. | Cultural studies course, (Refer to the KCTCS catalog.) |
5. | Demonstration of computer/digital literacy, (Refer to the KCTCS catalog.) |
6. | One science course must include a laboratory experience, and |
7. | Two disciplines must be represented in Social & Behavioral Science courses and must be different than those in the Heritage and Humanities categories. |

* Please note that SWRK 482 and SWRK 483 will need to be taken after your 8th semester. These courses cannot be taken earlier due to sequencing.
